Osteoporosis is a progressive disease of the bone in which the bone mineral density (BMD) is reduced making the bone thin and fragile. Normal bone comprises of a very thick network of bone with little spaces and holes scattered all over the bone. In this healthy situation there is more bone than holes. In contrast, in osteoporotic bone, the quantity of bone is drastically reduced and the holes now make up the majority of the bony entity.
